Mothers Day Gift Guide

With mothers day fast approaching on Sunday the 11th of March, I’ve put together a gift guide, or at the very least some inspiration, of what to buy. For my family and most others, mothers day isn’t about the presents. I love nothing more than spending quality time with my mum, whether that be treating her to breakfast in bed and a movie day on the sofa, or taking her out for a meal. Nonetheless, it’s always nice to put some thought into your presents to show how truly grateful you are for everything she does.

Traditional Gifts

Flowers: You can’t go wrong with a beautiful bunch of flowers! I would highly reccommend ordering them via Interflora as they hand-deliver the most beautiful hand-made bouquets and there is a huge variety to chose from. In their ‘Mothers Day’ section Interflora has a variety of hampers and gift sets which include champagne, wine and chocolates.

Candles: My mum has a weakness for candles and home decor. Candles Direct currently have a big sale on with up to 50% off of their Yankee Candles! The White Company also do beautiful candles, as well as Jo Malone and TK Maxx. If you want to opt for something a little more personal however, Not on the High Street have a massive range of personalised candles.

Chocolates: If you want to go all out Regency Hampers are selling a big hamper for £45 that includes lots of Lindt chocolate and Wine, but this would be a lot cheaper to make yourself!

Spa Day or Massage: So many beauticians and hotels do amazing packages for these! Websites like Wowcher, Buyagift, Groupon and Itison are especially good and your mum will no doubt be extremely appreciative.

Personalised Gifts

Personalised Messages Gift Box: I came across this and I think it’s perfect for a mum who is as cheesy and sentimental as mines is. Named ‘The Story of Mum’, there are 10 envelopes that prompt messages such as ‘you are amazing because…’ and ‘thank you for…’. It’s £16 but would be so easy to DIY if you already have envelopes and some paper! It’s a great keep-sake for your mum to look back on and it’s guaranteed to make her feel great.

Personalised Memories and Moments Keep-Sake: Similar to the above gift, this allows you to write up to 10 memories. This way, your mum can treasure the best memories yous both share.

What I Love About Mum’ Book: This book is the perfect Mother’s Day gift for those who struggle with presents. It’s only £7.95 and has over 100 pages where you can fill in the blanks and let your mum know how important she is.

Personalised Notes of Appreciation: I think this is such a good idea! It’s a personalised notebook that’s made up of 20 translucent envelopes for you to place all of your different letters inside. Even if you started off writing one or two letters and then wrote one every week or month to place inside, your mum can keep the collection of sentimental letters safe forever and reread them whenever she wishes.

Name a Star: I love this because it’s so unusual! I named a star after my mum and dad for their anniversary and they were over the moon. Very also do a discounted version at only £9.99.

Electrical/ Tech Gifts

Amazon Echo Dot Speaker: This is for the mums who love their music! This speaker is a smart device with voice regognition and control and is £49.95 from John Lewis. You can speak to it and interact with it (i.e. ask questions such as the what the weather’s like, what time it is and you can even request it to play specific songs).

Coffee Maker: If your mum’s anything like mines she will appreciate this. The Morphy Richards one from Tesco has so many good reviews.

Smoothie Maker/ Blender: I have the 900 watt Nutri Ninja which is a bit on the dearer side but I used to have the Morphy Richards one (only £19.99) and it does the exact same job! The only downside is that you can’t use a lot of ice if you’re making smoothies.

Fitness Tracker: Fitbit’s are amazing because they track your sleep, steps, how many calories you burn in a day and there’s even reminders to move if you’ve been idle for too long. I have the Charge 2 which is £119 (£20 cheaper from John Lewis than the Fitbit website), but there’s cheaper versions such as the Flex 2 at £69.99.

Hot Brush: Although I’ve not used this, I’ve heard so many good reviews about the Tresemmé hot air styler! It’s supposed to give your hair a lot of added volume and body from the root to the end and is only £22.49.

Beauty Gifts

Gift sets: Boots have an amazing range of gift sets just now, most of which are half price. My fave deals are the 12 piece Real Techniques makeup brush set for £40, the 10 piece Soap and Glory set for £30, the 9 piece Ted Baker toiletry set for £25, the 6 piece Sanctuary spa set for £25 and multiple No. 7 beauty sets for a range of prices. Clinique are doing an 8 piece ‘party favours’ gift set for £40.20 and Elemis are currently doing a 6 piece set for £37.80 that includes all of the skin care essentials! Smashbox are also doing a 5 piece introduction set for £22 (I have this and it’s so worth the price!) and Charlotte Tilbury are selling a 6 piece ‘red carpet travel kit’ for £59. If your mum loves to keep her nails on top form, Beauty Bay has so many nail kits to choose from ranging from £9 to £70.

Moisturiser: You can’t go wrong with this! Every year when I ask my mum what she wants she always wants some moisturiser. I use the Dermalogica ‘Active Moist’ and it’s genuinely the most amazing formula ever for dry skin! On their official website it’s £50 for 100ml, however I usually purchase mines from Lemon Skincare because 100ml only costs £33.90. Clinique’s Moisture Surge is also so hydrating and it helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and plump up the skin. For a highstreet dupe, I absolutely love Garner Moisture Bomb which is only £7.99 as well as The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Moisture cream which is amazing and is £19 per 100ml.

Essentials: Yves Saint Laurent are doing a make up gift set which includes the Touche éclat highlighting pen and blur primer for £25.50 (I would highly recommend this for mums who suffer from dark under eyes). Asos also have good deals including a 7 piece NYX makeup set for £12.50, a 4 piece Benefit brow set for £31.50 as well as a £12 beauty box which includes 4 face masks and a skin clarifying mud mask. Lancome are selling an eye set including mascara, kohl eyeliner and eye makeup remover for £17.15. Zoeva is doing a set of 8 matte liquid lipsticks for £58, Huda Beauty is also doing an amazing set of 4 matte liquid lipsticks for £33, and Anastasia Beverly Hills are selling 4 nude matte lipsticks for £22.

Memories of Mum

I thought it would be nice to add in a little section for those loved ones who have lost their mothers, as this time of year can be the hardest for them. A little gift to show that they are in your thoughts can go a long way!

Remembrance Garden Gift: This ‘forget me not’ set helps you celebrate the life of a loved one. Although it’s £23, it comes with a personalised engraved slate where you can write a personalised message, as well as seeds to grow flowers.

Photo Block: This personalised wooden photo block is £21.95, but I think it’s such a nice, authentic keep-sake. Along with your own photo, you can write any message that’s up to 65 characters. I’m sure anybody close to you who no longer has a mum to celebrate mother’s day with will appreciate this!

Initial Bracelet: I think this is such a lovely present for anybody, but especially those girls who have lost their mum (you could get their mum’s initial engraved on it). The bracelet is only £9 and you can choose what colour you want and whether you want the initial engraved on either a star or love heart charm.

This is a bit of a long list and I could go on forever but I just wanted to give people who are uncertain about what to buy a bit of an idea! If you can’t see anything in this guide to get her you could always opt for for perfume, jewellery, personalised homeware gifts such as mugs, aprons, pillows, photo frames, and if all else fails, alcohol haha!!

  1. My mum loves receiving flowers, mixed colour of roses, very particular. & she likes all the grandkids to hand make her a card, she has a collection because she keeps them all. X
